Sarah Foster, DNP, MSN, APNP, RN, FNP-BC, NP-C, AGACNP-BC
Dr. Sarah Foster serves as the chair of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, and Adult-Gerontology DUAL Nurse Practitioner programs at Alverno College's JoAnn McGrath School of Nursing and Health Professions — programs she played a key role in developing. Since joining Alverno in 2017, she has brought a wealth of experience, including over a decade as a hospitalist nurse practitioner and prior roles in medical-surgical and cardiovascular intensive care nursing. Currently, she also works as a hospitalist nocturnist nurse practitioner at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie, where she leads a team, mentors new advanced practice providers, and participates in RN onboarding training. Her clinical work includes attending rapid response events, developing care plans for newly admitted patients, and providing advanced critical life support, with a focus on evidence-based therapies and patient-centered care, especially in advanced care planning and end-of-life discussions.
In the classroom, Foster embraces the philosophy of carpe diem, creating dynamic, student-centered learning environments that challenge students to take an active role in their education. She sets high expectations while fostering a growth mindset, encouraging her students to engage in real-world problem solving that highlights the practical applications of their knowledge. Foster’s approach inspires students to strive for excellence and discover the impact they can make in the health care field.
In her free time, she enjoys reading, exercising and spending time with her family. You might find her at a pool as a USA Swimming official while her children competitively swim.
