Center for Learning and Assessment Support (CLAS)
Need Good, Comfortable Academic Support? Come to CLAS!
The Center for Learning and Assessment Support (CLAS) provides the CLAS Lounge, a comfortable study lounge in RC 109, and four major academic services, all geared to help you during your time at Alverno: accessibility services, multilingual learning, tutoring support, and the Assessment Center. Each of these services is available to students on a self-referral basis. See our individual service pages for more information, but here are the basics:
Student Accessibility and Accommodations
Accommodations are arranged through self-referral and documentation of disabilities. We provide reasonable adjustments to ensure fair and equitable access to
education for students with physical and/or learning disabilities, as well as students experiencing needs related to pregnancy and childbirth. These accommodations can include
academic/non-academic and permanent/temporary accommodation needs, as well as accommodations for licensure and graduate admissions exams. Questions? Contact Sara Vogel (RC 131)
Sara.Vogel@alverno.edu or (414) 382-6026
Multilingual Learning Support
We offer language-related support to help students develop their ability to navigate between English and other languages that they or others in their home
environment may speak as they work to manage assignments, class experiences, and the living environment at Alverno. Services include arranging extra time for assessments, including licensure
and graduate admissions exams, and providing in-person or online consultations with the Multilingual Coordinator, who is also a graduate research and writing expert. Questions? Contact Sheryl
Slocum (RC 133) Sheryl.Slocum@alverno.edu or (414) 382-6219
Tutoring
Our tutoring support includes peer and professional tutoring, both available drop-in and by-appointment. Our peer tutors are highly successful
students who can assist their peers with a wide variety of academic challenges, providing support in a relaxed and social setting. Our professional tutors specialize in math, writing, test
preparation, communication, planning/organization, and multilingual learning. Questions? For PEER TUTORING, contact Raechel Bowersox (RC 119) Raechel.Bowersox@alverno.edu or (414) 382-6021. For PRO TUTORING, contact ML
Cogar (RC 129) Mary.Cogar@alverno.edu or (414) 382-6223 for test
prep, writing, reading, or speaking support, or Jon Cox (RC 109F) Jonathan.Cox@alverno.edu
or (414) 382-6127 for mathematics and quantitative literacy support.
The Assessment Center: Accommodated and Makeup Assessments
The Assessment Center in RC 114 provides a quiet environment for students to take assessments. It features a general room for multiple students
to test simultaneously with minimal distractions, as well as a few private rooms for students with documented needs that require complete focus or read-aloud services. Students use the
Assessment Center for official accommodations, makeup assessments arranged with instructors, or when they cannot complete assessments during regular class time. Questions? Contact Raechel
