About 1098-T Tax Forms
What is a 1098-T?
The 1098-T form reports the amount of qualified payments made toward tuition and related fees that Alverno College billed you during the previous calendar year.
Alverno College reports this information directly to the IRS; therefore the 1098-T is for your information only and does not need to be attached to your tax return.
When will I receive a 1098-T?
1098-T Tax Forms will be available starting 1/31/24. If you would like to receive your form as quickly as possible, please opt in on IOL to receive the form electronically. If you do not opt in or if you no longer have access to IOL, your form will be mailed to you on 1/31/24
Why didn't I receive a 1098-T?
You may not receive a 1098-T if:
- You were not a student in 2023.
- You do not have a valid SSN or address on file.
- You did not make payments in 2023 toward qualified tuition expenses.
Why is box 2 empty? I'm used to seeing a number there.
The IRS changed the reporting requirements for 2018 and schools are now required to report in box 1 instead.
Why is box 1 empty?
Box 1 will be empty if you were billed for the spring 2023 term in 2022. In this case, these tuition charges would have appeared on your 2022 1098-T. This is the case even if you made all of your payments in 2023. There may still be amounts in other boxes, which is why a 1098-T form was generated for you.
