About Information for All Students
Whether you're a new student or have been here for years, you may find yourself with Advising-related questions. Here are some common topics we get asked about. If you'd like to discuss one of these in greater detail, please schedule an appointment with your advisor.
Change of Major or Minor
All students who are interested in making a change to their academic program (major and/or minor) are required to discuss this change with their advisor. The student’s graduation date should be reviewed, as length of time to graduation may be impacted by a change of major or minor. Following this discussion, the advisor will complete and submit a Change of Major form on the student’s behalf. The student and advisor will be emailed when the change of major/minor has been processed.
Dropping a Class
All students wishing to drop a class (or classes) should first consult with their Advisor as well as the Alverno Financial Aid and Student Accounts Offices to learn about any possible financial impacts dropping a class (or classes) will have on their current tuition and billing. After doing this, students must request to drop a class in writing by completing and submitting the Add/Drop Form located on the Registrar’s Office webpage: https://www.alverno.edu/Registrar-Forms.
Leave of Absence (Student on Leave)
Students who wish to take a leave of absence (also known as a Student on Leave) should contact the Advising Office at professional-advising@alverno.edu or 414-382-6029. Each student will be connected with the most appropriate Advising Office staff member for assistance with their leave request.
Official Withdrawal
Students that wish to request officially withdrawing from Alverno should contact the Academic Advising Office at professional-advising@alverno.edu or 414-382-6029. Each student will be connected with the most appropriate Advising Office staff member for assistance with their withdrawal request.
Medical Exception
Circumstances may arise when a student experiences a sudden or unexpected health condition that is debilitating to the point that it interferes with the activities of daily living and participation in academic courses and requirements. In the event that a student must drop all or some courses due to a significant medical/health issue, they may request a Medical Exception. A Medical Exception can only be requested during the semester in which a student was enrolled and the health issue occurred. Approval of a Medical Exception may qualify the student for a financial adjustment for that specific semester. A student may only be approved for a Medical Exception one time during their entire Alverno tenure. To learn more about the Medical Exception policy and request process, contact the Academic Advising Office or the Financial Aid/Student Accounts Office.
