Educational Specialist in School Psychology

Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of children and families? Alverno offers a transformative Educational Specialist (EdS) in School Psychology program designed for aspiring school psychologists. You’ll learn how to blend psychology and education to assess student needs and provide evidence-based interventions to support students’ academic success and mental health.

Alverno’s three-year online program, open to all genders, includes two degrees in one: you’ll earn a Master of Science in Educational Psychology degree and progress to advanced coursework for the Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology.

Upon graduation, you'll be eligible for licensure as a school psychologist.

About the Program

Our flexible online program begins with the 30-credit Master of Science in Educational Psychology, which counts toward the more advanced 60-credit Educational Specialist in School Psychology (EdS) degree.

First, you’ll gain hands-on experience applying your skills and knowledge in a school setting, under the supervision of a practicing school psychologist.

Beyond the classroom, you’ll complete a 600-hour practicum and then work full-time as a school psychology intern, accumulating 1,200 hours of real-world experience. We’ll work with you to find practicum and internship placements in our extensive network that align with your location and interests.

Accreditation

The program is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists and approved by the Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction. Graduates of Alverno’s program are eligible for licensure as a school psychologist both locally, in Wisconsin, and nationally. In addition, NASP accreditation enables Alverno graduates to apply for a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential. This credential is achieving growing recognition among state school psychology licensing boards and allows for reciprocal certification in selected states outside of Wisconsin.
