Alverno College Will Hold its 157th Commencement on May 19

Alverno College will hold its 157th commencement on May 19 as 95 master's candidates and 143 students walk across the Pitman Theatre stage to receive their degrees. The graduate ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception. The undergraduate ceremony will take place at 2:00 p.m., and will also be followed by a reception.

Treasurer of the United States Jovita Carranza will give the commencement address at the undergraduate ceremony. Carranza was made an honorary alumna of the college in 2011, and served on Alverno's Board of Trustees from 2013 to 2017.

Commencement activities for undergraduates will begin on Friday, May 18 with a Baccalaureate Mass at 4:00 p.m. in the Alverno College chapel, followed by a dinner for degree candidates and their families. The undergraduate commencement introduction will be given by Melissa Rojas, who will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Management. The undergraduate invocation will be given by Emerald Summers, who will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Educational studies, with a minor in English Language Studies. The student address, “Overcoming Adversities,”will be given by Gina Schostok who will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies. The graduate commencement invocation will be given by Maddie Shaw, who will receive a Master of Arts Degree in Education. Rojas, Summers and Shaw are Milwaukee residents, and Schostok is from Wonder Lake, Ill.
