Alverno College Names Director of Human Resources

Alverno College has named Magda Hoffman as its new director of human resources. In this role she will oversee the college's human resources department, responsible for employee communications; compensation, benefits, records management and worker’s compensation; recruitment and onboarding; and employee events.

Hoffman has experience across a variety of industries, including non-profit. She comes to Alverno from Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin, Inc. where she served as one of three human resources business partners. While there she reduced turnover by evaluating job descriptions and wages and establishing recruitment strategies to attract more talented applicants; worked closely with executive leadership to develop strategic plans to achieve business objectives; oversaw a multi-year project to support talent acquisition and employee retention; and successfully streamlined operations that resulted in a $750,000 cost savings.

“Magda is a great human resources leader who balances a real connection with people with a process mindset that will continue to mature the department,” said President Andrea Lee, IHM. “She brings tremendous positive energy and will be a great culture fit with the HR team, the leadership team, staff and faculty.”

Before working at Goodwill Industries, Inc., Hoffman served as the human resources manager at Featherlite Trailers Inc. in Iowa, overseeing the needs of over 500 employees. While there she decreased turnover by 25% by making sure wages were competitive, and was the project lead selecting and implementing a new payroll and human resources information system.

Hoffman earned her Bachelor of Sociology and Political Science from Edgewood College in Madison, Wis.
