Description:
If you love to sing or play an instrument, the Music Performance minor allows you to take private lessons to improve your performance, play or sing in ensembles, and study the fundamentals of music. The coursework stresses performance-related activities that help expand your musicianship, while classes in basic music theory and history broaden your knowledge of this art form.
Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this program, each student will be able to:
1. Explore the music of different cultures and societies to better understand the place and value of music in those contexts.
2. Make historical and stylistic relationships between music of different time periods and cultures.
3. Apply insights and understanding derived from the study of music literature, history and theory in the preparation of musical performances.
4. Demonstrate understanding of different stylistic traits and composer styles in performing works from different time periods and cultural areas.
