Three Outstanding Alverno College Alumnae Honored
Alverno College will honor three alumnae during the college’s Alum Reunion and Awards Brunch on April 27. The event begins at noon and will include the presentation of the Alum Awards and the induction of Class of 1975 graduates into the Golden Guild.
Cassidy Korpela ’19 will receive the Rising Star Award, given to an alumna less than 30 years of age who has achieved success in her career. Korpela serves as an engagement manager of donor networks at United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County, where she works collaboratively to address some of the community's greatest challenges. She is also passionate about staying connected with the Alverno community, supporting student events, serving as a guest speaker in classes, volunteering as an assessor for new students, serving on the Alverno Alum Council and co-founding Alverno Alum Monthly Meetups.
Jackie Q. Carter ’11 will receive the Outstanding Alumna Award, given to an alumna who demonstrates strong leadership ability in her career or in service to the college or community. Carter is the Director of Port of Milwaukee, the first woman and first person of color to lead a commercial port in the state of Wisconsin. She has more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit and public sectors, and serves on a number of non-profit boards.
Rocio Trejo ’08 ’23 EdD will receive the Service to Community Award, given to an alumna who has made significant contributions to the community. She serves as Director of the Department of Bilingual Multicultural Education for Milwaukee Public Schools where her advocacy extends to all language learners. She has advocated at the state and local levels for curriculum, assessments, and educational policies that account for and benefit multilingual learners, and has challenged practices that would negatively impact language learners.
